Is Bookstagram the latest social media boom?

Since the announcement that the world was to enter isolation, that left little for people to turn to ye olde faithful netflix, was the first stop.  The second was the pile of books that everyone managed to accumulate but are waiting for 'just that extra bit of time' or to finally sit down and read. There are two categories of 'stack readers' (Outside of the bookstagram universe), the i-am-buying-this-book-and-i-will-read-all-of-it-even-if-it-takes-6-years and the second category i-have-the-same-two-books-living-on-my-bedside-table-that-have-been-there-so-long-the-table-underneath-has-changed-colour. But it seems that with this new isolation, people are dusting off the their old paperbacks, finding those lost book marks and discovering their newest favourites. Personally, i have used this time to catch up on what is hot right now within the literary world, keeping up with my favourite authors has been difficult, with so many new books that are coming out and so many i want to read, my 'tbr' pile is ever growing.

It's not just the average joe working at home that has turned their hand to the musty smelled books, celebrities have taken to their instagram pages to share their new found leisure activity 'reading'. In these last few months, there have been more colourful stacks of books and cups filled to the brim with tea and funko pops garnishing my instagram feed to last a lifetime.

We have all seen the glut and boom of different instagram categories, from make up artists to fashion icons and full circling back to the new working category of influencers. Instagram has had its fair share of illuminating the individual bloggers career. Before the giant shift occurred, finding a book review was limited to good reads, magazine and bookstore articles. But that has nothing on the new trend glossing instagrams membrane. The titles of 'must read' grow every day, as more people jump on and share their opinion, understanding and feeling towards their current reads.

This introvert past time has seen a massive rise with the introduction of celebrity book club, bringing celebrities closer to their fans. This is just one example of the new way this bookstagram landscape has brought together authors and their audience, as well as the book sharing community all over the world. It's safe to say that the old image of grandmas, ladies who lunch and all round stuffy people sitting in a circle talking about how they 'felt' about the book is truly a figment of past musings. replaced now by communities of people doing 'read alongs', book challenges and all round allowing people with the same taste in the same atmosphere to discuss, recommend and enjoy the art of reading.

Times be a- changin' and with summer plans cancelled, beautiful picturesque scenery has been wiped off the table for the near distant future, instagramers have swapped their tactics and are lighting the feed up with colourful book shelfs, with books ordered by genre, alphabetical surname and title.  Personally, i like to order my books in how much i would love to re-read the book or series.

A giant thank you can be directed towards some of Hollywoods elite who have created bookclub, shared reviews and spotlighted authors during this time and really revived the introverted part time. It is this celebrity endorsement that has helped to elevate the past time of reading. With big names like Kia Gerber, Reece witherspoon and Emma watson paving the way to their millions of followers how they have enjoyed taking this time out to read. A new light has dawned on the literary universe, as the greater population reopen their minds to new worlds.

This new bookstagam boom has meant there are more people to share in the love of reading, and perhaps breathing life into an art form that had started to die down.

From one bookstagramer to another this new space looks to be growing everyones tbr piles.
