Indigo owl book review

Welcome to Galbraith, a futuristic planet that humans now live on because planet earth became unviable. In this dystopian YA high fantasy novel we are introduced into a rich new world built by debut author Charlie Archbold. Scarlet Bergen's life is stunted, with the disappearance of her mother a scientist in charge of embryo productions, Scarlet and her dad are sent to live in the fated 614 district. Galibraith is run by executives - those of whom were tested and deemed perfect for leading. The institution is where young cadets of age can select what they want to train in. Solitaire, Malachite, Willow and Cardinal are the four different factions that young cadets can become. When Scarlet comes of age she is sent to the institute where she selects to follow in her mothers footsteps and becomes a Solitaire. There she meets Dylan, a fellow Solitaire, Rumi a Cardinal, Lexi and Seb. But as the group learn more and more about Galbraith and Scarlet questions what happened to her mum, it becomes clear that not everything is what it seems.

Each chapter is written in alternative POV of Dylan, Scarlet and Rumi. While there was three different POV's which is quite a feat i also didnt really feel the author changed in their writing style which at times made it a little difficult to follow and understand whose POV you were reading. I loved how well developed the author made this world, from holotiming to medbots the author really went all out in creating an authentic futuristic vibe through the storyline. I loved the twist of Galibraith taking a real deep dive into fertility and creating a sterile society, hiding those that are fertile. I was intrigued by the premise that Scarlets mum was alive and i loved that giant twist the author included. The other amazing aspect of this novel is the title. I often wonder how authors think of the title for their book and within the first five pages i knew why it was called Indigo Owl and that theme kept recurring through out the book.

I highly enjoyed this read a special thank you to ausya bloggers and wakefield press for sending me an arc copy.
