Tom Clancy's Firing Point - Mark Maden (Book review)

I can honestly say i haven't had my socks blown off by a book in a while, Firing point changed that.

Mike Maden is an amazing author, who had me constantly on my toes, guessing absolutely everything and everyones motives.

Firing point follows Jack Ryan junior raiding a north Korean computer lab to take down one of the worlds most elusive crime rings. Only to have Van Delden kill himself falling into a hot vat rather than be taken in by Ryan and his colleges.

Jack goes on a week vacation in Catalonia, Spain. Only to find his once love Renee walking into a bar just as he was leaving. An explosion happens and Renee is murdered. What follows is Jack Ryan doing sleuth work to identify who 'Sammler', the last word Renee uttered. What he found was Sammler was a what not a who and as he fights for his life, his father the president of the United States is trying to find out who is blackmailing people into transferring millions of dollars to avoid ship wrecks of cargo.

This book was fantastic, there weren't too many characters incorporated and there was such an interesting back story given, whilst still not being too detailed and over the top that you lose interest in the storyline.

Maden was easily able to interchange between POV's of both Jack Ryan Jr and senior, creating two parallel storylines which then meet up at the end.

What i loved so much about this book is honeslty, i had NO idea who the main antagonist was. Guzman was portrayed at the head honcho of Sammler, from his secret covid talks and behind the scenes planning it was clear he was running the organisation. But in the last 5 pages Maden threw the biggest twist i never saw coming, Buck Logan was behind the whole thing. đŸ€Żthis was an accurate description of my mind, and you know what i loved it. I loved the fact that this book had me constantly guessing until the end and created a false bottom ending until the very end.

If you are a crime tv show fan this book is fantastic and accurately relates and portrays shows like NCIS.  Highly recommend this book to any crime thriller lover and i can say this book has made me a giant Jack ryan fan.
