The imperfects - Amy Meyerson

The Florentine Diamond has been missing for over 100 years, last seen just before the fall of the Austrian empire, many thought that it has perished forever.

Helen Auerbach -a Jewish Austrian who fled her home country during world war II for America.

Deborah miller - a troubled woman who needs the comfort of men, even abandoning her children at a young age.

Ashely Miller - Her marriage is falling apart, with her husband being investigated for fraud, she is about to lose it all.

Jake Miller- floating through life, working a menial job until he comes home to find his girlfriend is pregnant.

Beck Miller- She didnt have the most stable upbringing, and her job and looking after Helen are the most stable things in her life.

***

A family who is so fractured it was borderline hard to read. A brooch was the only thing that brought them together. When Helen passes away and leaves the brooch to Beck the family decided to investigate to see if the diamond within the brooch is actually the florentine Diamond. But once the Italian ministry and Austrian royal family find out, there is not stopping them from coming after the diamond.

What the Millers embark on is a journey through their past, a wealth of history and most importantly a respect for their relatives.

I was very shocked at the end when Viktor stole the diamond after he convinced Deborah to take him to the safe deposite box, at first i rolled my eyes thinking that a woman like Deborah who cannot live without the approval of a man (what do you expect, this is her behaviour). Then i thought some more and i thought what if Viktor is a metaphor, a metaphor for the diamond being lost - just poof disappeared. This book is filed with heartache, sadness, and a family that is so far from perfect they are imperfect.

⭐️⭐️

Although it was an interesting storyline, i wasn't as invested in the story. I found some of the characters to be tedious and annoying. However, the story was well written and each character POV was separated by a new paragraph which made for an easier reading experience and less confusing.
