The Scholar - Book 2 in the Cormac Reilly series.

Book 2 of the DS Cormac Reilly series starts off just as Dervla started her previous work, we meet Carline, a young heiress whose father is just killed in a tragic skiing accident. The young Carline wants to live with her billionaire grandparents- owners of Darcy Therapeutics. Only they harbour a secret.

Fast forward 8 years and DS Cormac Reilly's partner  (romantically), Dr. Emma Sweeney finds a dead body, a young woman who she believes to be the Darcy therapeutic's heiress. With Cormac's partner now being investigated for murder and her labs centred in the investigation, its no wonder Cormac tries to take over the investigation, not just to clear his partners name, but to ensure that the rest of the garda conduct the investigation properly.

When days pass and still the identity of the hit-run victim is not found, Paul Lambert arrives at the garda station ready to file a missing report for his missing sister. What does an heiress and a girl from the wrong side of the track have in common? And what does Darcy Therapeutics have to do with it?

In the thrilling second novel we are exposed to yet again more corruption, secrecy and backstabbing. I LIVED FOR IT!

This book has been short listed for 2020 ABIA book of the year, and honestly it is well deserved. There was not one moment i felt lost with the storyline, was bored with jargon or even felt that it went so into depth that because i dont know much about the field i was confused. Once again Dervla has been able to intermingle other garda's personal lives with the of the protagonist, storylines of different victims and perpetrators.

I was literally guessing right up until the last page and it made for such a satisfying conclusion. Not only were we experiencing the current murder, but she went into depth of Emma Sweeneys past and it ALL MADE SENSE. Every single word is thought out and well placed. The literary genius behind this woman is phenomenal! the Scholar is #bookeaterapproved and it is honestly a must read.

On a side note, i absolutely love that both her books looks like they have rain on the cover, not only does it keep a consistency within the series, but it is an ode to Galway weather which i find very cute.

If you haven't already grab yourself a copy. i promise you wont be disappointed.
