American Royal - Book review

For the last month or so i have had a craving for royal romances. It has been bad, every second book i read has to be about some sort of royal romance. I think the many 'Christmas Prince' movies have been the culprit of this new addiction.

I have read some great books, more adult romance books. But then i discovered 'American Royals', by Katherine Mcgee.  i brought this book because, the blurb really got me, 'imagine if George Washington was made himself king.' The only thing that made this book even cooler - it came with hot pink sprayed edges and i am  living for it.

The American Royals follows Beatrice, Sam, Jefferson, Nina and Daphne, as they navigate separate issues with being next in line to the throne. One thing i found difficult was that every chapter was from the POV of a different character.  Personally, i find these kinds of books difficult to connect with the characters, but i have to say, i found in this book Mcgee wrote each of the character POV's  superbly, and had each of the character intertwined in the story. It’s like gossip girl - but royal 😍.

There were so many issues explored in this book, for Beatrice the choice between love and duty. Sam was the spare, but she longed to be seen. Nina was the best friend of a princess, but she never fit into her world. Daphne was determined to become Jefferson's wife, and she wasn't going to let her secrets get in the way of that.

'American Royal', is filled to the brim with secrets and lies, that make you just want to keep reading. I LOVED it. And i cannot wait to read the next book in the series. If you have read American Royal yet, i highly recommend you do.
