a conspiracy of bones - book review

Fun fact about me. I love crime drama tv shows. NCIS, NCIS LA, NCIS New Orleans, all the CSI, Blue bloods, Law and Order SVU, you name the crime drama show and i can probably bet that i have watched it, more than once and in seasonal order. Out of all the cirme drama shows that i have listed, you are probably looking at it going Caroline your missing a big one... To which i would say, jee bro give me a minute to get my point across. Ok OK so Bones. The tv show with temperance brennan the forensic anthropologist who has a knack for solving just about any murder and Booth her love interest, and detective buddy. Together they give victims justice in this very unsual yet heartwarming crime fighting duo. So bone isnt on tv anymore, sadly running its usualy course in 2017. But what some people may not know is that bones is like one of the OG book to tv show adaptation. Yep that right, if you are a bones fan, guess what you can still live vicariously through Temperance Brennan in her books by Kathy Reichs. So like any normal bones loving fan, i picked up the latest in the Temperance Brennan series, A conspiracy of bones. The blurb intrigued me. A faceless man with no identifying features, the probie anthropologist in me was like 'wow how are they going to solve this'. (Strained face) this book fell so so short for me. For one there was no autopsy of the body, this other ME did that autoposy. Giant strike. Booth was not in the book, in fact none of the characters from the TV show were in the book (Ok i gave this a half strike because i know in book to TV adaptations there can be some liberations taken with characters and such). The detective work was below sub par, Temperence is not the ME she is not a detective, and her questions were just silly. Strike two (Well two point five). Next the man that was murdered took a back seat to a whole new plot line being this child sex ring, which i was like ok this is a valid plot line, but when you have a murdered person, isnt the whole point for the reader to, i dont know, empathise with the murdered victim... its why they are called victims? Instead the life this guy lead up until his death gave me shivers. Temperance was not as lovable in book form as she was in TV form, her quirky no filter attitude was absent. and to be honest with you she was bland. *sigh* and so my first full review of the year is complete. ⭐️⭐️/5 💖 self confessed book eater
